Secondary Social and Emotional Counselor

Secondary Social and Emotional Counselor  at ISP The primary function of the Counseling Program at the International School of Panama is to help students successfully navigate the multiple challenges and opportunities they will face during their time in/adolescence. This requires nurturing executive functioning, decision making, social, emotional, and academic growth. The role of a counselor includes supporting social and emotional growth and mental wellbeing. The specific grade level will be G8-9, straddling the Middle and High School for one year until the launch of the Secondary School in 25-26 . Reports to:  High School Principal Collaborates closely with:  Middle School Principal, Head of PK-12 Counseling Department, teachers, other counselors and Assistant Principals.   Responsibilities:  (Including but not limited to) Provide individual support to students with social, emotional, personal and academic needs Develop strong, trusting relationships with students Support and engage as a member of the Child Protection Team at ISP Serve as a consultant to administration, teachers, and parents to guide them in ways to meet the social and emotional needs of students Collaborate with Department of Student Services to support our response to intervention process Foster understanding, and appreciation of diversity among students, and promotes positive relationships within the school and community  Assist in crisis situations and maintain appropriate follow-up in order to avoid escalation and reoccurrence. Utilizes restorative practices when working with students Develop transition programs for students moving between divisions. Collaborate to provide an orientation for new students including the ambassador program.  Identify and utilize community resources and establish effective working relationships with parents and all available referral resources Provide student and parent workshops on various topics, e.g. drugs and alcohol, anti-bullying, sexual education, etc Compile data and prepare reports as requested.  Keep current by participation in educational activities, conferences, and through professional organization membership.
